Mystery Substances!!

Our first grade scientists have been very busy during these last few days!  We started our week with a science talk about "What is Alive?"  A science talk is a discussion where all views and ideas are accepted and respected.  Everyone gets a turn to share their thoughts and we work hard not to correct our peers.  After that we looked at two different "mystery" substances and compared them to rock salt.  The students were told that one of the "mystery" substances was a living thing.  They used magnifying glasses, the proscope digital microscopes and more to observe the two substances in order to make a prediction about which one was a living thing.  Below are pictures that the students took of our mystery substances and a few of our predictions.
