The students have been preparing for our upcoming "Collecting and Examining Life" science unit over the past month. We started by posing the question, "What is a Scientist?" to assess student background knowledge. Check the posted videos. They have explored their environment looking for living and non-living things and have practiced observing and recording their results with scientific drawings. The students were introduced to one of our important technology tools, the proscope. The proscope is a digital microscope that allows us to view items with increased magnification! The kids loved looking at a nut that was found on our walk as well as the dime during math time.
A huge component of our new science program is engaging children in the inquiry process by asking key questions which allow them to construct their own knowledge! We use the "I Wonder" circle to help children to engage in scientific processes such as wondering, thinking, observing, discovering and more. This circle can help you to engage your little scientists at home as well!
